Mens Golf News

Over the weekend we completed the Finals of the Bianconi Spring League and Team G [ David Marmion ,Peter McLaughlin ,Fergus O’Connor ,Pat O’Neill ,Jim Guiry and Vincent Devlin ] beat Team F [ James Long [Captain],John Long , Kieran Foley , Seamus shaughnessy , Joseph Long and Michael Shaughnessy ] by 4 points to 2 . In 3rd place came Team I [ Denis Griffen ] and 4th was Team D [ Tim Collins]. The winner of the Plate was Team A [ Pat Riordon] Our very sincere thanks to Rick and Ray Sheehy of the Bianconi for the great sponsorship of this very popular Event in which we had 80 playing. We believe the changes in format made to the Competition this year added to its attraction and enjoyment and hopefully a greater number of Members will play next year when it will again be kindly sponsored by the Bianconi. Next Sunday we have the first of the Golfer of the Year competitions Which will be 18 hole Stableford and is very kindly sponsored by O’Sullivan’s Bakery . This will be the final competition before we go on tour to Douglas the following weekend to play Monkstown and Fota Island. There are still a few spaces available but these must be filled within the next couple of days and also all outstanding payments for the Hotel and Golf must be made this week. We have a good number traveling and it promises to be a great trip. Practice for the JB CARR panel shall commence shortly and all those intersted in being included please fill in your name and contact numbers on the Notice on the Board in the Club.In the alternative contact the Team Manager Pat Bowler on 0872888816. To qualify you must be at least 60 on or before the 31st December 2010. Each team comprises 5 pairs and the format is Scotch Foursomes. We have been drawn to play Ballybunion at home and the match is sceduled to take place in mid May [date to be confirmed]. We will be closing entries shortly for the Club Singles and Fourball Matchplay Championships so if you have not entered to date please do so within the next 7 days. At present we have 54 down for the Singles and 43 pairs for the Fourballs so there is room for more Practice for the Pierce Purcell Panel continues this thursday at 5 in the Club and additions to the Panel are welcome.
